Pump Engineering's Interstage Boost Turbos Finding Wide Acceptance Posted 04/06/06
PEI announced today that two HTC 1800 were recently delivered to Membrane Systems of Goleta, CA for interstage boosting service in brackish water RO plant located in Alameda, CA. In addition to the California plant, an expansion of the RO facilities in Dare County, North Carolina will include five of PEI's new LPT Hydraulic Turbochargers.
The LPT line is specifically designed for low-pressure multi stage RO plants. Its typical use in this type of plant is to boost the feed pressure between membrane stages. In the LPT, hydraulic energy in the brine stream drives an integrated turbopump, thereby recovering brine energy while boosting the interstage feed pressure. The addition of the LPT Turbo to the RO system results in lowering specific energy consumption by 10-20%, balancing membrane flux rates, reduces fouling potential, and improving permeate quality.
